PROFESSIONAL AND COST-EFFECTIVE TURRET PUNCHING
If you need turret punching services, we are one of the most capable and affordable sources in Melbourne, and we can get the job done right. We stock a wide variety of materials, use state-of-the-art machines and diligently follow all design specifications. We continually strive to improve and optimize our processes and maximize customer convenience. Our customers range from inventors to businesses to government agencies in Australia. We are focused on quality and customer service.
Our highly experienced team of machinists and engineers offers an all in-one fully automated turret punching and sharing service. It is fast, accurate, and more cost-effective than laser on most materials up to 6mm thick.
The Finn Power drops finished parts into designated bins or pallets, removing the requirement of labor to break parts out from the skeleton the way punching has traditionally been performed. This allows us to take parts directly from the machine to the folding area for the next process with no additional labor needed.
So if your sheet metal components require piercings such as round holes, square holes, rectangular holes, dimples, or other perforations, we recommend you explore the option of having your components made by our fully automated CNC turret punch line.
In many cases, turret punching allows us to offer you a lower cost per component than laser cut parts. Send us your inquiry and our team will inform you of the best options.
BUILT FOR EFFICIENCY & SPEED
Our Finn Power 'Shear Genius' and Amada turret punch presses achieve speeds as high as 1,000 hits per minute and offer optimal punching solutions. These high-efficiency machines allow us to pass on lower production cost to our customers.
The Finn Power, with its punching and shearing all-in-one operation, automated feed, and automated palletized stacking of cut parts is the pinnacle of machines when it comes to full speed and fully automated "lights out" turret punching. This machine is ideally suited for high volume, cost-effective, integrated punching and sharing applications.
Given that the Finn Power is highly automated, our CNC turret punching machinery offers unmanned and lights-out operation a11owing faster turnarounds. Lower processing times also mean savings can be passed onto you.

How Turret Punching Works
CNC turret punching creates shapes in sheet material by successively punching a series of basic shapes such as circles and rectangles. The basic shapes are selected from a rotating turret under CNC control.
A turret punch or turret press is a type of punch press used for metal forming by punching.
Punching and press work, in general, is a process well suited to mass production. However, the initial tooling costs, of both the machine and the job-specific press tool, are high. This limits punch work from being used for much small-volume and prototype work. A turret punch is one way of addressing this cost.
The tooling of a turret punch uses a large number of standard punch tools: holes of varying sizes, straight edges, commonly-used notches or mounting holes. By using a large number of strokes, with several different tools, in turn, a turret press may make a wide variety of parts without having to first make a specialized press tool for that task. This saves both time and money, allowing rapid prototyping or for low volume production to start without tooling delays.
Advantages
Turret punching is a cost-effective method for cutting sheet metal in moderate to long runs. Edges are usually very good due to the shearing action.
Shapes
Turret punching can produce almost any 2D shape including cutouts. Example applications include Custom Enclosures, Custom Metal Brackets, Custom Robot Parts, Custom washers, Custom wrenches, Custom Front Panels, Custom Sheet Metal Boxes, Custom Motorcycle Parts, Custom Auto Parts, Custom Toy Parts, mechanisms, and chassis.
Materials
Punching is commonly applied to Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Steel, and Brass.
- Cost optimization
- Replacing outside arcs such as rounded corners with chamfered corners
- Reducing the number of different hole sizes
- Minimizing use of complex curves
- Use of hole sizes corresponding to stock tooling
- Requesting custom tooling for high volume runs
- Design Considerations
- Avoid thin, fragile shapes
- Warping may occur if many holes are punched or much material is removed from the sheet
- Minimize use of very small holes
- Bottom side features may have a few thousandths of an inch more material than the top dimensioned side.
- Some edges may show minor signs of the successive punching process, less so on the bottom side.
